Showcase night went really well! I had a little booth with pictures of Carmen and Espi skiing, my essential question, copies of my research paper, and a video about my wall. I had lots of interested folks come and it was really great. The wall garnered the most attention but lots of people were really impressed by the DCF-JHHS program. They loved how it was bringing diversity to the wonderful sport of skiing.
All in all, heck yeah! I took my video from the Banff Film Festival and edited it for tomorrow nights showcase! Aw yeah! Emily and I also discussed at our meeting yesterday getting feedback from our participants so as to see how we could improve the program. Here is a Google Form I just sent them regarding their experience. Hopefully we will hear back from them soon with some great responses!
Yesterday I met with my community mentor Emily Coombs and discussed the relationship between DCF and the JHHS Alpine Ski Team. We agreed that the program has kind of built itself and all that Emily needed to keep it going in the future was some important information regarding the requirements of the team. So I made a sheet with some important information and links for her. Check it out!
The Other day we finished installing the official MoonBoard lights on one of the 25 degree walls. We had to climb back behind the wall and carefully thread the lights through all the trusses and then push them through the pre-drilled holes in a looping pattern so that the lights corresponded with the correct holds. Then we plugged them in and pressed the start button and it gave us this awesome light show! Let the Illumination of the nation begin! Huge shoutout to Kylie Mohr and Bradley J Boner for the awesome article in the weekly Jackson Hole News and Guide!!! It really encapsulated our project and was huge to have the publicity! Please check it out!
The awesome, hecka rad Hannah Dunlop designed, painted, and perfected our awesome mural. She worked super amazingly hard on it so make sure to give her a huge high five because it is the best ever!!! Here's her super crazy cool website hannahjdunlopcapstone.weebly.com
Here's a quick timelapse of us putting up the first climbing holds on one of the 25 degree walls. The holds are numbered and have an arrow on them. They correspond to certain rows and columns on the board and a certain direction. A hold might be numbered 135 which corresponds to say K5 and the arrow should point North which means straight up. So we followed that procedure for the entire wall until it looked like it does in the picture below (there are still a few more holds on the way to fill in the last spaces). So a lot has been going on. We recently got all the pads in that Mr. Hart had picked up in Boise, Idaho; finished the mural; put up the holds on one of the 25 degree walls and put the lights in; AND got an article in the paper!!! To start, heres a timelapse of us unloading the pads. |
