This site is a great resource for an easy read compilation of different studies on recreation and the impact it plays in the lives of youth. It greatly helped me to realize the implications of recreation among youth and the good it does. Because of this site I feel an even greater need to increase access for youth to recreate.

This site highlights the relevance of targeting minority and underprivileged populations when increasing access to recreational activities. It highlights how certain groups have much higher tendencies to be related in criminal activity and their mental health is worse, so the evidence that shows that recreation can help with that follows up on this site.

Physical, Social and Emotional Benefits of Participating in Sports. Directed by Lisa Roundy, 2016.
This video was very clear and easy to learn from. It helped guide my understanding towards the basic positive benefits of recreation mentally, physically and socially for children. I now have a clearer knowledge of why recreation is so important for youth, especially for underprivileged youth who are at risk.

This source very clearly stated the effects of recreation on not only individuals but communities. I came to the greater understanding of the fact that recreation not only builds up individuals but also their communities. It almost seems to have a ripple effect which is very interesting to me and key to the thesis that recreation is key for society as a whole.

Emily Coombs has many years as an experienced mentor to youth through her creation of the Doug Coombs Foundation. She knows the cultural issues of low income or underprivileged youth in Jackson and how they can be alleviated. I will use her knowledge to gain a first hand view of the issues present in Jackson.

Natural, outdoor recreation is key to a kid's health. This magazine helped me to see how beneficial it can be to the mental health of youth and how crucial it is to their success. I will use this source to help prove the mental health implications of outdoor recreation.
